Beginnings of a Still Life in Acrylic

P1010257
I received an inquiry from someone who does beautiful food styling and photography to do a painting based on her photo of choice. I decided to return to acrylic paint, a medium I like very much but haven’t used in some time. It is waterbased, but, handles differently than watercolor. You can work more slowly with it; but it can dry out quickly on your palette and on the canvas. After sketching out the drawing on a heavy canvas sheet, I laid in the wood grain upon which several dark, ruby red delicious apples sit. I left it alone at that point, as I couldn’t quite bring myself to mix the colors of the apples. I would leave that to another day after internally processing the fact that red delicious apples are not necessarily red.
