I finally took a deep breath and started mixing my acrylic paints on the palette, working fairly quickly and keeping everything somewhat wet (but not too wet, as I wanted opacity rather than translucency) with my Liquitex Palette Wetting Spray. I left the white page where highlights were. I created a more translucent muddy greenish-gray for the shadows the apples cast. The apples themselves are a mixture of reds, oranges, yellows, blues and burnt sienna. Painting in a more impressionistic style, I decided not to be hyper-realistic this time. When I stand back, the apples seem to come to life for me.
